The Coptic Cairo Day Tour departs from Cairo hotels for a private, full-day circuit through Old Cairo’s Coptic Quarter, visiting the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue, the Coptic Museum, Abu Serga Church, and the Church of the Virgin Mary in Zaitoun. The tour runs approximately 8 hours with private transport and a private guide. It is the only Cairo one-day tour built exclusively around Coptic heritage sites, without pairing them with Islamic Cairo landmarks.
Private vehicle pickup from Cairo hotels leads first to the Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqa) in Old Cairo. From there, the route continues on foot to Ben Ezra Synagogue and the adjacent Coptic Museum within the same walled complex. The circuit then moves to Abu Serga Church (Sts. Sergius and Bacchus), before a private transfer to the Church of the Virgin Mary in the Zaitoun district, followed by the return drive to the hotel.
No other Cairo religious-heritage day tour isolates the Coptic Quarter on its own, pairing the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue, and Coptic Museum with Abu Serga Church and the Church of the Virgin Mary in a single Old Cairo circuit rather than splitting the day with Islamic Cairo stops. If you’re comparing experiences across Egypt, you can also explore our full collection of Egypt day tours and excursions to see how this dedicated Coptic heritage route differs from other cultural and historical trips.
Only on this route
Most combined Islamic and Coptic Cairo tours cut the Coptic Museum and the Zaitoun church to leave time for Al-Muizz Street and the mosques a single day can't fit both quarters in full.

Your driver collects you from your Cairo hotel and heads straight for Old Cairo, the walled district anchoring this Old Cairo Coptic Quarter tour of the city's Christian Quarter.

You step onto a nave built over the gatehouse of the Roman fortress of Babylon, giving the Hanging Church its name and its raised floor. Twenty-nine marble columns and Coptic icons dating to the 8th century line the interior.

From here, your guide leads you a short walk to Ben Ezra Synagogue, Cairo's oldest synagogue and the traditional site linked to the discovery of the Cairo Geniza manuscripts. Your guide points out the well where, by local tradition, the infant Moses was found among the reeds.

You continue on foot to Abu Serga Church, built over the crypt where tradition holds the Holy Family sheltered during their flight into Egypt. Steps lead down into the crypt itself, one of the only points on the tour where visitors descend below the nave floor.

Your private transfer then carries you out of Old Cairo entirely, to the Church of the Virgin Mary in Zaitoun, several kilometres north of the walled complex. This site is known for reported Marian apparitions recorded there in 1968, distinguishing it from the fortress-cluster sites visited earlier in the Coptic Cairo tour.
