    The Great Giza Pyramids

Start your Egypt trip at the Pyramids of Giza, amazing monuments from ancient times. The Great Pyramid was built around 2560 BCE as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu, and it was the tallest building in the world for 3,800 years! Nearby is the Pyramid of Khafre, made by Khufu’s son, Pharaoh Khafre, and it is connected to the Great Sphinx, a giant statue that looks like him. The third and smallest pyramid was built for Pharaoh Menkaure. These 4,500 year old pyramids show how smart and skilled the ancient Egyptians were!

    The Valley Temple

Then discover the Valley Temple of Pharaoh Khafre, part of his ancient tomb that also includes the Pyramid of Khafre and the Great Sphinx at Giza. Built a long time ago, around 2570 BCE, this temple shows how smart and creative the ancient Egyptians were. Made from strong stone like limestone and granite, it was used to prepare the pharaoh for his journey to the afterlife. Take a tour to learn about its history and see how amazing the ancient builders were!

    The Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a giant statue in Egypt with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It was built a very long time ago, around 4,500 years ago, during the time of Pharaoh Khafre. The Sphinx stands near the Pyramid of Khafre and was probably made to protect the area. Over the years, wind and sand damaged it, but Pharaoh Thutmose IV fixed it and placed a stone called the “Dream Stele,” telling a story about becoming king. People started studying the Sphinx in 1817, but some parts of its history are still a mystery. The Sphinx is an incredible example of ancient Egyptian art and remains very special today.

You can see the treasures of King Tutankhamun and items from King Khufu, who built the Great Pyramid. Learn about Egypt’s past and see how people lived a long time ago.

  • Day 3: Explore Qaitbay Citadel & Alexandria Library
    meal

    Breakfast

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at Cairo Hotel, then embark on an unforgettable journey to explore Alexandria guided by your expert tour guide.

    Trip to Alexandria

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Alexandria, a city rich in history and stunning architecture. The journey along the desert road takes approximately two hours.

    Qaitbay Citadel

Your first stop is the Qaitbay Citadel, a fortress built in 1477 by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay during Egypt's Mamluk period. This castle was designed to protect Alexandria from sea attacks after the fall of Constantinople in 1453. Explore this historic site and discover its role in defending the city centuries ago!

    Bibliotheca Alexandria

Visit the Bibliotheca Alexandria, a modern tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria, once one of history's greatest centers of learning. Founded around 300 BCE under Pharaoh Ptolemy II, the original library hosted scholars like Euclid and Archimedes before its destruction, likely by fire. Opened in 2002, the new library continues this legacy with millions of books, ancient manuscripts, and rare writings, all housed in a striking, modern design celebrating learning and discovery.

    meal

    Lunch

After your cultural exploration, take a break and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Taste traditional Egyptian dishes and savor the flavors of the Mediterranean.

    Pompey's Pillar

After lunch, your tour guide will take you to see Pompey's Pillar, one of the most famous monuments in Alexandria, Egypt. This impressive granite column stands 25 meters tall and was built in 297 AD to honor the Roman Emperor Diocletian, who ruled from 284 to 305 AD. The pillar was named after Pompey by mistake, but it has no connection to him. It is made of red granite from Aswan and is the largest Roman column outside of Rome. While you can’t climb to the top, you can still admire its size and imagine how it once stood as a symbol of Roman power in Alexandria.

    Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa

Next on our tour are the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages. Discovered in 1900 when a donkey fell into a hole, these ancient underground tombs date back to the 2nd century AD during Roman Egypt. The Catacombs showcase a unique blend of Roman, Greek, and Egyptian architecture. As you explore the tunnels and burial chambers, you’ll see statues, carved sarcophagi, and other fascinating features. Your guide will share the history of this remarkable site, likely built for a wealthy family in Alexandria.

Dedicated to the god Amun, its construction began around 2000 BCE during the Middle Kingdom and continued for over 1,500 years, with contributions from rulers like Senusret I, Hatshepsut, and Ramses II. As you walk along the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes, imagine ancient ceremonies and processions. The massive columns of the great hypostyle hall, built during the reign of Seti I and Ramses II (1290–1213 BCE), showcase the incredible engineering and artistry of ancient Egypt.

    Luxor Temple

Next, we’ll visit the Luxor Temple, an ancient site built around 1400 BCE during Egypt’s New Kingdom. Dedicated to the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu, it hosted key ceremonies like the Opet Festival. Explore well preserved statues of pharaohs like Ramses II, intricate hieroglyphics, and towering obelisks symbolizing power. We’ll also walk the Avenue of Sphinxes, a 1.7-mile pathway lined with sphinx statues that once linked the Luxor Temple to Karnak, one of the world’s largest religious complexes.

It is the final resting place of rulers like Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered in 1922, and Seti I, known for his beautifully decorated tomb. As you explore the intricate tombs, you’ll learn about the history, beliefs, and myths that shaped ancient Egyptian life.

    Hatshepsut Temple

Next, we’ll visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt's most famous ancient sites. Built around 1479–1458 BC, it honors Queen Hatshepsut, one of the few women to rule as a pharaoh. As the daughter of Pharaoh Thutmose I, she became a powerful ruler during the 18th Dynasty. Located at Deir el-Bahari near Luxor, the temple is renowned for its stunning terraces, columns, and carvings depicting her reign.
