Lake Nasser & Abu Simbel Questions
A Lake Nasser cruise sails the vast man-made lake created by the Aswan High Dam, south of Aswan toward Abu Simbel. It visits remote Nubian temples rescued during the UNESCO Nubia Campaign — Kalabsha, Wadi El Seboua, Amada, Kasr Ibrim, and Abu Simbel itself — that a standard Luxor-to-Aswan Nile cruise never reaches. The lake is calmer and far less crowded, and sailings run in both directions between Aswan and Abu Simbel.
Both directions are available. If you're already in Aswan, you can board directly and sail south to Abu Simbel over 5 days. If you're arriving from Cairo, the fly-cruise option includes domestic flights (Cairo–Aswan and Abu Simbel–Cairo) built into the package. The shortest option starts by flying into Abu Simbel and sailing north to Aswan over 4 days.
Every itinerary includes the Abu Simbel Temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. Depending on the package, you'll also visit Kalabsha Temple, Beit El Wali, the Kiosk of Kertassi, Wadi El Seboua (the "Valley of the Lions"), Amada Temple, the Temple of Derr, the Tomb of Pennut, and view Kasr Ibrim from the ship's deck since landing there is restricted to protect the site.
If you only have a few days and want Lake Nasser plus Abu Simbel with nothing else, the 4-day or 5-day cruises are the most efficient. If you also want the classic Luxor-to-Aswan Nile cruise combined with Lake Nasser in one trip, the 10-day package sails both waterways. For a complete first Egypt visit — Cairo, Alexandria, the Nile, and Lake Nasser together — the 13-day package covers everything in one continuous itinerary. Contact us and we'll match the right length to your dates.
October through April offers the most comfortable conditions for temple visits and sailing, with daytime temperatures typically between 20–30°C (68–86°F). Summer months (June–August) can exceed 40°C in the Abu Simbel and Aswan region, so most travelers prefer the cooler season. Lake Nasser cruise ships run year-round, and cabins are fully air-conditioned regardless of season.
