    Great Giza Pyramids

    You'll stand at the base of the Khufu pyramid and look up at 2.3 million limestone blocks stacked to a height that held the world record for nearly 4,000 years. Your guide reads the plateau as a living text, each pyramid placed, angled, and named with precision that still generates debate.

    Valley Temple of Khafre 

    Step inside one of the best-preserved structures from the Old Kingdom, where the walls are cut from massive granite blocks fitted without mortar. Your guide will explain how priests carried out the embalming rites here before the pharaoh's body moved to its final resting place above.

    The Great Sphinx

    You descend three levels underground into a burial complex that fuses Egyptian, Greek, and Roman iconography on the same walls, in the same chamber. Cut into the rock around the 2nd century AD, it is the largest known Roman-era funerary site in Egypt, and genuinely disorienting to move through.

    Greco-Roman Museum Tour

    El Bawiti Village

    You'll arrive at the main settlement of Bahariya and get your bearings in a place that operates on a slower register than Cairo — date palms, low stone buildings, and a market where your guide knows the vendors by name. It is the practical and cultural hub of the oasis, and worth an hour of unhurried walking before the museum.

    Golden Mummies Museum

    Inside, you'll find gilded mummies from a necropolis discovered in 1996 when a donkey stumbled into a burial shaft, eventually revealing over 250 tombs from the Greco-Roman period. The gold-leaf masks covering the faces were applied to identify the deceased in the afterlife — the detail in the painted wrappings varies from tomb to tomb, reflecting the family's wealth.
