    Transfer from Hurghada to Cairo airport for the international flight to Amman Queen Alia International. Your Jordanian guide meets arrivals, transfers to the 5 star Amman hotel, and briefs on the two-day Jordan programme.

  • Day 12: Madaba, Mount Nebo & Dead Sea

    Three sites in sequence south of Amman, each within an hour's drive of the others.

    St. George’s Church

    Your guide walks you directly up to the 6th-century mosaic floor map of the Holy Land, 94 metres wide at its original extent, with Jerusalem clearly delineated at the centre. The tessera work in the Jordan River section is unusually fine and still reads the water flow direction correctly after 1,500 years on the floor.

    Mount Nebo

    At 817 metres, this ridge above the Dead Sea basin is where the Book of Deuteronomy records Moses viewing Canaan; the view on a clear day carries from the Dead Sea to the Jerusalem hills. The Serpentine Cross sculpture at the summit references both Moses's bronze serpent and the Christian crucifixion. Your guide explains the dual iconography.

    Dead Sea

    You enter the water from your guide's preferred access point on the Jordanian shore. The salt concentration 34%, against the ocean's 3.5% means the float is involuntary; your guide explains that the lake is 430 metres below sea level and losing approximately one metre of surface height per year due to water diversion.

    A full day in the Nabataean capital, the Jordan anchor site of this 14 day luxury Egypt & Jordan tour.

    Al Khazneh

    Your guide enters the Siq with you on foot: 1.2 kilometres of slot canyon narrowing to 3 metres wide before opening onto the Treasury's 43-metre carved façade. The guide stops twice in the canyon to show the Nabataean hydraulic channels cut into the rock walls at shoulder height, the engineering that made the city viable in desert conditions.

    Royal Tombs

    The four rock-cut tomb façades directly above the colonnaded street are readable in sequence: Urn Tomb (1st century AD), Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, and Palace Tomb. Your guide reads the order of scale. The Palace Tomb façade is 47 metres wide, wider than anything else in the city.

    Great Theatre

    Carved entirely from the rock face in the 1st century AD, seating 8,500 spectators, your guide shows the drainage cuts in the orchestra floor, still functional when it rains.

    Qasr al-Bint

    The only free-standing structure in Petra still at near-full height, built without mortar in the Nabataean manner around 30 BC; the temple's purpose, whether dedicated to Dushara, Al-Uzza, or a combined deity, remains unresolved, and your guide presents the current scholarly debate rather than a settled answer.
