Itinerary

Your guide meets you at Cairo International Airport and transfers you to your hotel in a private air-conditioned vehicle, with the 17 day Egypt and Jordan itinerary confirmed on arrival.

Nile Dinner Cruise
Step aboard a lit cruiser as Cairo's skyline slides past the windows and a live folklore band sets the tempo for the evening. The floating buffet spans two hours of sailing; the illuminated minarets and bridges you pass are the city at its most legible.

Meals
Dinner

Your guide collects you after breakfast for the Giza Plateau, a 30-minute drive from central Cairo, where the scale of the site only registers once you are standing at the base.

The Great Giza Pyramids
Marvel at the Great Pyramids of Giza, built over 4,500 years ago as eternal tombs for pharaohs. Their precise architecture and monumental scale remain a testament to ancient Egyptian genius.

The Great Sphinx
Walk the viewing terrace until the Sphinx's paws are at eye level, and the dream stele between them is readable at close range. The monument was carved from a single limestone knoll, leaving the surrounding bedrock visibly lower, a detail most visitors miss from the far viewpoint.

Valley Temple of Khafre
Your guide leads you through the T-shaped granite hall where Khafre's body was prepared for burial; the floor channels cut for water drainage are still intact beneath your feet. Twenty-three seated statues of the king originally lined these walls, each weighing several tonnes.

Grand Egyptian Museum
Explore the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), home to the world’s largest collection of pharaonic artifacts. From royal statues to priceless relics, history vividly comes to life.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

An early flight from Cairo to Aswan opens the Nile cruise leg; your guide meets you at Aswan Airport and transfers you directly to the first site.

Aswan High Dam
Marvel at the Aswan High Dam, a modern engineering marvel controlling the Nile’s floods and supporting Egypt’s agriculture.

Unfinished Obelisk
Crouch beside the granite trench where workers were chiselling this obelisk free when a crack appeared in the rock, abandoning a monument that would have stood 42 metres tall, larger than any obelisk ever completed. The iron dolerite pounding balls that caused the crack are still scattered in the trench around it.

Philae Temple
Sail to Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. Its island location and stunning Nile views make it a romantic and historical landmark.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning, collect your breakfast box and travel by bus to Abu Simbel to visit its magnificent temples. Return to your Nile cruise before it sails at 12:00 PM to Kom Ombo, where you will explore the riverside temple before continuing onward to Edfu.

Abu Simbel Temples
our guide walks you down the sloping entrance forecourt until the four seated colossi of Ramesses II fill the frame, each figure 20 metres high, carved directly from the sandstone cliff face around 1264 BCE. The temple's interior alignment means sunlight penetrates the innermost sanctuary twice a year, on 22 February and 22 October, illuminating three of the four seated gods; the entire structure was cut free and relocated 65 metres higher between 1964 and 1968 to protect it from Lake Nasser.

Kom Ombo Temple
Explore the Kom Ombo Temple, a unique double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon god, reflecting ancient Egypt’s complex religious life.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After visiting Edfu Temple, return to the cruise and continue sailing toward Luxor. This evening, explore the beautifully illuminated Luxor Temple, where towering columns and ancient statues create one of Egypt's most impressive nighttime experiences.

Edfu Temple
Step into the Temple of Edfu, dedicated to Horus, one of the most preserved temples in Egypt. Its hieroglyphs tell stories of gods, pharaohs, and ancient rituals.

Luxor Temple
As the sun begins to set over Luxor, step into the glowing corridors of Luxor Temple, where golden lights bring the ancient stones to life. Once connected to Karnak Temple by the legendary Avenue of Sphinxes, this sacred pathway was used by pharaohs during grand religious processions thousands of years ago.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The cruise docks at Luxor; your guide moves the group efficiently between the West Bank necropolis in the morning and the East Bank temples in the afternoon. Drive to Hurghada in the late afternoon; overnight at a Hurghada hotel.

Karnak Temple
Explore the monumental Karnak Temple Complex, a sacred center of worship dedicated to Amun, showcasing centuries of pharaonic devotion.

Valley of the Kings
Visit the legendary Valley of the Kings, the resting place of pharaohs, including Tutankhamun. Tombs are adorned with intricate wall paintings guiding souls to the afterlife.

Hatshepsut Temple
Approach along the lower causeway with the cliff face directly ahead; the three colonnaded terraces rise in steps against the rock, the topmost level carved partly into the limestone itself. Hatshepsut ruled Egypt for roughly 22 years as pharaoh, not regent, and commissioned this temple as her mortuary monument around 1473 BCE.

Colossi of Memnon
Stand before the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues guarding Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple, reflecting Egypt’s ancient grandeur.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Wake up to the gentle sound of the Red Sea waves and spend a full day soaking up the sun on Hurghada’s golden sands. Feel the warm breeze, listen to the lapping water, and let the tranquil atmosphere melt away all stress.

Optional Snorkeling Trip
Dive into an optional snorkeling adventure and explore a vibrant underwater world teeming with colorful fish and coral reefs. It’s an unforgettable way to connect with the beauty of the Red Sea.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Enjoy a full day of relaxation on Hurghada’s serene shores. Swim in the calm, crystal-clear waters, sunbathe under the radiant sun, or simply stroll along the coastline, letting the Red Sea’s beauty surround you.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Spend another leisurely day enjoying the peaceful beaches of Hurghada. Swim, sunbathe, or lounge with a book as the sparkling waters of the Red Sea create the perfect backdrop for a day of serenity.

Optional Safari Tour
For thrill-seekers, embark on an optional desert safari just beyond the coast. Traverse sweeping dunes, witness dramatic landscapes, and experience the desert’s magic firsthand.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Savor your final full day in Hurghada by basking on the soft sands and swimming in the crystal-clear Red Sea. Take in the spectacular views, and let the calm ambiance of the coast fill your day with peace and happiness.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

An early Hurghada to Cairo flight returns you to the capital for a full day in the city before the Jordan transition. Travelers seeking a more premium cross-border experience may also consider our 16 Day Luxury Egypt Jordan Escorted Nile Cruise, which focuses on five-star accommodations, private guiding, and a fully escorted journey across both countries.

Egyptian Museum
Your guide routes you past the monumental entrance foyer directly to the royal mummy room, where 27 pharaohs from the 17th to 21st Dynasties are displayed in sequence. Ramesses II's mummy is 3,200 years old, and the facial features remain intact. The museum holds approximately 120,000 objects across 107 halls; the ground floor statuary includes a full-scale granite block of Amenhotep III that required two cranes to install.

National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
Discover the NMEC, featuring the revered Royal Mummies and thousands of artifacts that trace Egypt’s fascinating journey from the pharaohs to modern times.

Al Muizz Street
Walk the 1-kilometre medieval spine of Fatimid Cairo between the Bab al-Futuh gate in the north and Bab Zuweila in the south; the street contains the highest concentration of medieval Islamic monuments in the world, designated a UNESCO heritage zone. The sebil-kuttab of Abd al-Rahman Katkhuda at the midpoint of a public water fountain with a Quranic school above was built in 1744 and remains one of the best-preserved examples of Ottoman civic architecture in Cairo.

Khan El Khalili Bazaar
Immerse yourself in the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar, exploring colorful lanterns, aromatic spices, and handcrafted souvenirs that capture the spirit of Cairo.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Your guide transfers you from your Cairo hotel to Cairo International Airport in time for the Cairo to Amman flight. A Tripidays representative meets you at Queen Alia International Airport, clears customs formalities, and transfers you to your Amman hotel. The remainder of the day is free to walk the immediate neighbourhood or rest before the Jordan leg begins in earnest tomorrow.

Meals
Breakfast

The day opens with a 45-minute drive north from Amman to Jerash, one of the most complete Roman provincial cities anywhere in the world, and the destination that sets this 17 day Egypt and Jordan extended tour apart from every shorter alternative.

Jerash
Walk the Oval Plaza's full ellipse 90 metres on the long axis, where the original Roman paving stones still carry the wheel ruts of 2nd-century carts. The plaza functions as the formal entry to the collonaded Cardo Maximus, the north–south spine of the city, which extends for 800 metres ahead of you.

Hippodrome
Your guide positions you at the starting gates where chariot races began; the track is 244 metres long and the bleachers accommodated up to 15,000 spectators. The Hippodrome is one of only six Roman hippodromes in the world where the original starting gate mechanism has been partially reconstructed.

Temple of Artemis
Climb the processional stairway to the temple platform and place a finger between two of the Corinthian columns. The columns flex perceptibly in the wind, a deliberate engineering choice to prevent cracking under seismic load. The temple was built around 150 CE and dedicated to the patron goddess of the city; at its peak, the precinct hosted thousands of worshippers during the annual Artemisia festival.

Ajloun Castle
Your guide approaches from the valley road, so the castle reveals itself gradually above the pine-forested ridge, a 12th-century Ayyubid fortress built in 1184 CE under the command of Izz al-Din Usama, a nephew of Saladin. The four corner towers were added in stages over 50 years; from the uppermost parapet, the Jordan Valley is visible 20 kilometres to the west on clear days.

Amman Castle
Walk through the Roman Temple of Hercules, where only the podium and two column fragments remain, but the scale indicates a structure larger than the Parthenon. Before entering the Umayyad Palace complex, built in the 8th century CE. The giant hand fragment near the temple entrance belongs to a cult statue of Hercules that would have stood 12 to 13 metres tall.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

A full-day southward drive through central Jordan, covering four distinct sites before arriving at Petra for the night.

St. George’s Church
Step inside the church and look down at the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land set into the floor beneath your feet, 94 metres long in its original form and now the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the Middle East. Your guide identifies Jerusalem at the centre, the Jordan River running diagonally across the upper section, and the Dead Sea rendered in deep blue with fish turning back from its salt-heavy water, a detail that confirms the cartographer understood the ecology.

Mount Nebo
The view from the summit extends across the Jordan Valley to the Dead Sea, 817 metres below sea level, from where you stand, with the West Bank plateau visible on clear days. This is where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land before his death; the Byzantine church built here in the 4th century CE was expanded repeatedly, and its mosaic floors are among the finest in the region.

Karak Castle
Your guide walks you through the lower enclosure first so the scale of the Crusader construction is clear before you reach the upper citadel; the castle was built by the Crusaders in 1142 CE and held for 46 years before Saladin's forces took it in 1188. The castle's position on a spur 900 metres above sea level made it effectively impregnable without artillery; the rock-cut moat on the northern side is still 10 metres deep.

Dana Biosphere
The road descends into the Dana valley through a series of switchbacks until the ochre and sandstone cliffs open into Jordan's largest protected area, 320 square kilometres of contiguous habitat ranging from Mediterranean woodland at 1,500 metres to the Wadi Araba desert floor at 50 metres below sea level. The reserve is home to sand cats, wolves, and over 180 bird species; the silence at the valley rim is audible, and no road noise carries this far in.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

The Siq entrance is the right starting point for Petra; your guide enters ahead of you and sets the pace through the 1.2-kilometre-long canyon. Drive to Wadi Rum in the late afternoon; overnight at a Bedouin desert camp under open sky. If you would like to extend your adventure beyond Egypt's Nile Valley and Jordan's highlights, our 18 Day Egypt Jordan Extended Siwa, Nile Cruise & Petra itinerary adds the remote Siwa Oasis for an even broader exploration of North Africa and the Middle East.

The Siq
The walls of the Siq are close to 3 metres apart at the narrowest point, rising 80 metres on either side; the original Nabataean water channels, cut into the rock face at knee height, are still visible for most of the walk. The first view of Al Khazneh appears as a vertical crack of colour at the end of the slot, a reveal that works because the Nabataeans understood sightline geometry.

Al Khazneh
Your guide stops you 50 metres back so the full 40-metre façade reads as a single composition before you close the distance. The Treasury was carved around the 1st century BCE as a royal tomb, not a treasury, and the urn at the top, riddled with bullet holes from Bedouin treasure-seekers, is solid stone.

Royal Tombs
Walk the terrace at the base of the cliff face where the Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, and Palace Tomb are arranged in sequence across 200 metres of carved rock. The Palace Tomb's upper storey was built from cut stone blocks rather than carved from the cliff, the only part of Petra's monumental façade that is not solid rock.

Great Theatre
Cut directly into a ridge of tombs that the Nabataeans partially destroyed in the process, the theatre held 8,500 spectators in 45 rows of stone seating curved into the sandstone hillside. The cavea was carved around the 1st century CE, adapted from an earlier Nabataean prototype; the orchestra floor still carries the original drainage channel.

Qasr al-Bint
Stand at the base of the free-standing temple, the only major freestanding structure in Petra built from dressed stone rather than carved from cliff face, and your guide identifies the dedicatory inscription on the surviving lintel as one of the few legible Nabataean texts in the site. The temple stood 23 metres tall at its completion and was still in use as a place of worship into the 4th century CE.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

The 4×4 safari leaves camp at first light; the desert is coldest and most photogenic in the hour after sunrise. Drive north to the Dead Sea; afternoon arrival to overnight at a Dead Sea hotel.

Wadi Rum
Your Bedouin driver navigates between the sandstone massifs. The valley floor is 720 square kilometres of protected desert wilderness, with cliffs rising to 800 metres covering ground that no walking trail reaches. The sand shifts from yellow to deep red depending on iron content in the sandstone; the colour change is most visible from the elevated dune ridges above the valley floor.

Nabataean Temple
The carved inscriptions on the rock face beside the temple ruins are in Nabataean script, confirming this was a trade-route waystation before the Roman period absorbed the Nabataean kingdom in 106 CE. The ruins sit at the base of Jebel Rum, the highest point in Jordan at 1,754 metres, which forms the visual backdrop for the site.

Lawrence Spring
Climb the worn rock path to the ledge where a natural spring emerges from the sandstone; the water still flows, surrounded by fig trees that have no business thriving at this altitude in this aridity. T.E. Lawrence described camping at this spring in 1917; the view down the valley from the ledge is one of the few in Wadi Rum with no modern structure visible in any direction.

Khazali Canyon
Enter the narrow gorge at points barely a metre wide, and your guide identifies the Thamudic petroglyphs at chest height on the left wall: ibex, human figures, and hunting scenes carved as far back as 4,000 years ago alongside Nabataean inscriptions from the 1st century CE. The canyon is 150 metres deep but receives direct sunlight for only a few minutes a day.

Dead Sea
Walk into the water, and your feet lift before you expect them to. The salinity at 34% makes the body's buoyancy adjustment immediate and disorienting. The surface sits 430 metres below sea level, the lowest point on Earth's surface accessible by road; the water temperature is constant at around 31°C, and the mineral content of magnesium, potassium, and bromine leaves skin noticeably soft after 20 minutes.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Final breakfast at the Dead Sea hotel; transfer north to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman for your outbound flight. Travelers looking for the ultimate regional experience can upgrade to our 21 Day Luxury Egypt Jordan Cruise & Sharm El Sheikh tour, which extends the itinerary with additional Red Sea luxury and extra time across Egypt and Jordan.

An overnight camp is the only way to see the desert at sunset, under stars, and at first light from inside the landscape.
