Discover Luxor, Dendera & Abydos in 3 Days
This 3 day Luxor Dendera Abydos temple tour covers five ancient sites across three days: the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Colossi of Memnon, Karnak Temple Complex, and Luxor Temple on Days 1 and 2, followed by a full-day overland excursion north to the Abydos Osiris Temple and the Dendera Hathor Temple on Day 3. The only 3-day Luxor-based tour that visits the Dendera Hathor Temple and the Abydos Osiris Temple, two rarely visited sites absent from all standard Egypt circuits, this itinerary is private, hotel-based throughout, and guided by a licensed Egyptologist from arrival to departure.
Every major site on this tour is named and sequenced here, so there is no ambiguity about what is covered: Day 1 moves through the West Bank Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and Colossi of Memnon before returning to Luxor. Day 2 covers the East Bank Karnak's Hypostyle Hall and Luxor Temple's Avenue of Sphinxes.

Itinerary

Your Egyptologist guide meets you at Luxor Airport or your hotel and transfers you directly to the West Bank. The three West Bank sites are visited in sequence before your return to Luxor for the night.

Explore the Valley of the Kings
You enter through a limestone canyon that hid 63 royal tombs for more than 3,000 years, and the scale of that concealment becomes obvious the moment the valley closes around you. Your guide will take you into three tombs included in the standard ticket; each one carries a different style of astronomical text and funerary imagery, so no two visits are the same.

Hatshepsut Temple Visit
Continue to the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut, an architectural masterpiece built to honor Egypt’s most celebrated female pharaoh. Its terraces rising against the cliffs create a breathtaking sight, especially when viewed from the banks of the Nile River.

Colossi of Memnon
Stand at the base of these two quartzite statues of Amenhotep III, and you'll understand why Greek and Roman travellers made the detour: each figure sits at 18 metres tall, cut from a single block quarried 675 kilometres away at Aswan.

Meals
Lunch

Private vehicle transfers you between the two East Bank sites. Both are walkable from Luxor's Corniche, but the distance between them is 3 kilometres. Your guide moves you efficiently between the two within a single day.

Karnak Temple Exploration
Visit the Karnak temple complex, one of the largest religious complexes ever built. Walk among towering columns in the Hypostyle Hall and feel the power of this ancient spiritual hub.

Luxor Temple Tour
You enter through the First Pylon, past two seated colossi of Ramesses II and the base of the obelisk that once had a twin now standing in the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Frequently Asked Questions
The tour includes 2 nights in a 5-star Luxor hotel with breakfast, a private licensed Egyptologist guide for all 3 days, private vehicle transfers, entrance fees to all seven sites across the itinerary (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon, Karnak, Luxor Temple, Abydos, and Dendera), and lunch on Days 2 and 3. International flights, Egypt visa, travel insurance, and tips are not included.
The only 3-day Luxor-based tour that visits the Dendera Hathor Temple AND the Abydos Osiris Temple, two rarely visited sites absent from all standard Egypt circuits. Standard Luxor short breaks cover Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and Luxor Temple; this tour treats those as Day 1 and Day 2 and uses Day 3 entirely for Abydos and Dendera, which professional Egyptologists consistently identify as the most intellectually significant sites in Upper Egypt. To see how this compares to other overland options, continue south with our private Luxor to Aswan felucca tour.
The Temple of Hathor at Dendera is one of the best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt, built during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods (1st century BCE to 1st century CE) and still carrying vivid painted astronomical reliefs on its ceiling. The Dendera Zodiac, the oldest complete horoscopic zodiac in the ancient world, is the defining feature; the temple also contains crypts with detailed ritual inscriptions and a roof chapel where Hathor's statue was exposed to the sun each New Year. To see what five Upper Egypt temple sites look like in a single overland circuit, add Edfu and Kom Ombo with our full Upper Egypt circuit.
Abydos is approximately 160 kilometres north of Luxor by private vehicle, roughly a 2-hour drive on a direct road. After Abydos, Dendera is a further 35–40 kilometres to the south, making a logical loop back toward Luxor for the airport transfer. Departure from your hotel is early (around 7:00 AM); the full day, including both temples, lunch, and return to Luxor Airport, takes approximately 10–11 hours. Your Egyptologist guide manages all timing and pacing throughout.
No domestic flights are required or included in this itinerary. The tour begins and ends at Luxor Airport or your Luxor hotel; all travel between sites is by private overland vehicle. If you are flying into Egypt from abroad, your arrival and departure city is Luxor.
