You'll stand at the base of the largest structures the ancient world ever produced and understand, physically, why no photograph prepares you for the scale. Your guide will position you for the full three-pyramid view before moving closer — at 146 metres, the Great Pyramid held the record for the tallest man-made structure for nearly 4,000 years.

You arrive back in Cairo in the morning. Today runs the Islamic Cairo and museum circuit, three sites, private vehicle throughout, your final full day before tomorrow's departure.
You'll approach the Citadel from the south, and the medieval walls rise above the city skyline before you reach the gate. Saladin began construction in 1176, and it served as the seat of Egyptian government for 700 years. From the terrace inside, the full Cairo panorama opens: the Pyramids are visible on clear days to the southwest.
Step inside and the interior shifts completely — the central dome reaches 52 metres, flanked by four semi-domes, the whole space lined in alabaster from Luxor quarried specifically for this building. Your guide will point out the French-gifted clock that arrived in exchange for the Paris obelisk; it has never worked.
The ground floor permanent collection moves through 5,000 years of Egyptian history in sequence from predynastic tools to the Coptic and Islamic periods, with the Royal Mummies Hall as the centrepiece.
