Itinerary

Your guide meets you at Cairo Airport and transfers you to your hotel before the evening's Nile Dinner Cruise departs. The cruise runs south of the Qasr El Nil Bridge as Cairo's lit skyline moves past the deck, your first read of a city that has run along this river for three thousand years.

Nile Dinner Cruise
As evening falls, step aboard a magical Nile Dinner Cruise. Sail along the legendary Nile River, passing illuminated landmarks while enjoying a delicious open buffet, live music, and traditional Egyptian performances. The shimmering reflections on the water offer an unforgettable introduction to your Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, and Jordan itinerary.

Meals
Dinner

Your guide picks you up after breakfast for the Giza Plateau, a 20-minute drive southwest of central Cairo, where three distinct pyramid complexes occupy a limestone ridge above the desert. A short transfer to Cairo Airport follows for the flight south. Your Luxor guide meets you on arrival.

The Great Pyramids of Giza
Stand in awe before the legendary Great Pyramid of Khufu, alongside the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. These colossal monuments, over 4,500 years old, form the heart of Egypt’s timeless legacy and are a highlight of any 10 Day Egypt and Jordan Overland Trip.

The Great Sphinx
Come face-to-face with the iconic Great Sphinx, the mysterious guardian of the Giza Plateau, carved with the body of a lion and the face of a pharaoh.

The Valley Temple
Your guide walks you through the granite causeway entrance, one of the best-preserved Old Kingdom structures on the plateau, built to receive Khafre's body during the embalming process roughly 4,500 years ago. The T-shaped hall still carries its original alabaster floor.

Grand Egyptian Museum
Discover the world-class Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), home to breathtaking artifacts that bring thousands of years of history to life in a stunning modern setting.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Both East Bank temples sit within walking distance of each other along the Nile's east shore, where ancient Thebes placed its temples of the living.

Karnak Temple
Explore the awe-inspiring Karnak Temple Complex, featuring towering columns, sacred lakes, and temples built by generations of pharaohs, one of the greatest religious complexes ever created.

Luxor Temple
You arrive at Luxor Temple as afternoon light hits the entrance pylon, where a single standing obelisk of Ramesses II still occupies its original position. Its pair has stood in the Place de la Concorde in Paris since 1836. The avenue of ram-headed sphinxes connecting Luxor to Karnak runs 2.7 kilometres; your guide walks a section toward the Nile gate before returning to your hotel.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

The West Bank holds the tombs and mortuary temples of the pharaohs, the Nile's east bank for the living, west bank for the dead, a division the ancient Egyptians maintained for centuries. The drive east from Luxor to Hurghada crosses the Eastern Desert, approximately 200 kilometres of open road through the Red Sea Mountains to the coast.

Valley of the Kings
Step into the legendary Valley of the Kings, the final resting place of powerful pharaohs, including Tutankhamun, with vividly preserved royal tombs.

Temple of Hatshepsut
You approach across the open causeway toward the three-tiered colonnaded façade cut directly into the Deir el-Bahari cliff face. Hatshepsut ruled Egypt as pharaoh for roughly 20 years in the 15th century BCE, and her architects designed this temple to merge with the natural rock amphitheatre behind it.

Colossi of Memnon
Pause at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two colossal statues standing as silent guardians of Egypt’s glorious past.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

This is a free day at your Hurghada resort on the Red Sea. The hotel fronts a private beach on the Gulf of Suez, where water temperatures average 24–28°C year-round and reef structures begin within a short distance of the shore.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A short domestic flight returns you to Cairo, where you overnight at your hotel. This transitional day allows for an afternoon at leisure in the city. Khan El-Khalili market is accessible by taxi from most Cairo hotels, before the international departure tomorrow. Travelers looking for a longer journey across both countries may also consider our 15 Day Egypt Jordan Overland Expedition, Cairo & Petra, which expands the route beyond Cairo and Jordan's highlights with additional cultural and historical experiences.

Meals
Breakfast

Your overland Egypt & Jordan tour crosses countries today: a direct flight from Cairo to Amman Queen Alia International Airport, where your Jordanian guide and driver meet you on arrival. The transfer takes you directly to your Amman hotel. Amman sits on seven original hills now expanded to over 20, and your hotel's position in the western districts keeps you close to Wadi Rum's departure point to the south. If you prefer a Nile cruise experience before arriving in Jordan, the 10 Day Egypt Jordan Nile Cruise, Amman & Petra follows a similar two-country route while replacing parts of the overland Egypt section with a scenic cruise between Aswan and Luxor.

Meals
Breakfast

The drive south from Amman to Wadi Rum takes approximately three hours through the desert highway, arriving at the visitor centre where your jeep and Bedouin driver take over.

Nabataean Temple
Your Bedouin driver positions the jeep at the base of the sandstone outcrop where a Nabataean rock temple cuts into the cliff face, the same civilisation that carved Petra 80 kilometres to the north. The inscription panels around the site date to the 1st century CE.

Lawrence Spring
You climb a short rock face to reach the spring Lawrence of Arabia described in Seven Pillars of Wisdom, with a view across the valley floor that extends for 40 kilometres on a clear day. The red granite cliffs framing the view rise to over 700 metres from the desert floor.

Khazali Canyon
Your driver stops at this narrow siq-like canyon where Nabataean and pre-Islamic inscriptions cover both walls at eye level. The canyon cuts 100 metres into the sandstone the interior temperature drops noticeably from the open desert outside.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

The drive from Wadi Rum to Petra takes approximately 90 minutes north through the Aqaba Amman highway, arriving at the Petra visitor centre before the gates open.

The Siq
You enter the ancient city on foot through the Siq, a natural geological fault 1.2 kilometres long and as narrow as 3 metres at its tightest point, with walls rising 80 metres above the pathway. At the Siq's far end, the first view of Al Khazneh opens through a gap of approximately 2 metres.

Al Khazneh (The Treasury)
Your guide places you at the Siq's exit where the full façade becomes visible: 40 metres wide, 43 metres tall, carved directly from rose-coloured sandstone in the 1st century BCE as the tomb of the Nabataean King Aretas IV. The Hellenistic columns and upper urn are cut from a single cliff face with no structural support.

Royal Tombs
The Urn Tomb, Silk Tomb, Corinthian Tomb, and Palace Tomb line the eastern cliff face above the Colonnaded Street — your guide identifies each by the geological colour variation in the sandstone: iron oxidisation produces the reds, manganese the blues and purples.

Great Theatre
Cut from the hillside in the 1st century CE with a capacity of approximately 8,500, the theatre's orchestra and lower seating tiers are carved from the rock rather than built. Your guide notes the narrow corridor cut behind the stage for actor entrances.

Qasr al-Bint
The only freestanding stone structure in central Petra, a Nabataean temple built around 30 BCE and used into the Byzantine period. The towering 23-metre façade faces north toward the Collonaded Street and is the clearest demonstration that Petra was a functioning city, not only a necropolis.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Your driver transfers you from your Amman hotel to Queen Alia International Airport for your departure flight. End of the 10 day Egypt & Jordan overland tour. Travelers seeking a shorter and more affordable introduction to both countries often choose the 8 Day Budget Egypt Jordan Cairo Luxor Petra, which focuses on the essential highlights of Cairo, Luxor, and Petra in a compact itinerary.
