Itinerary

Your Tripidays representative meets you at Cairo International Airport, handles all arrival logistics, and transfers you directly to your hotel by private vehicle.

Nile Dinner Cruise
You'll board as the city's lights begin to reflect off the water, traditional music playing, the skyline of Cairo moving past the deck at the pace of the current. The cruise runs approximately two hours and covers a working stretch of the river used by Egyptians daily, not a tourist-only corridor.

Meals
Dinner

Your guide collects you from the hotel after breakfast. The morning is spent on the Giza Plateau; the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum. An evening domestic flight transfers you to Luxor.

The Great Pyramids of Giza
Your first adventure unfolds on the Giza Pyramids Complex. Stand in awe before the Giza Pyramids, monuments that have guarded the desert for thousands of years. This is the highlight of every 5 day Egypt three cities tour, and the perfect start to your story.

Valley Temple of Khafre
You'll enter one of the best-preserved mortuary structures on the Giza Plateau, built from granite blocks weighing up to 100 tonnes each, the precision of their placement still legible in the walls around you. Your guide walks you through the processional halls where the pharaoh's body was once prepared for burial, connecting the physical space to its specific ritual function.

The Great Sphinx
Your guide will walk you to the lower terrace where the Sphinx sits at ground level; from here, the scale of the carved limestone face registers differently than from the plateau above. At 73 metres long and cut directly from the bedrock, it remains the largest monolithic sculpture in the world.

Grand Egyptian Museum
Next, explore the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), Egypt’s newest cultural crown. Here, ancient Egyptian treasures shine under modern light, offering a complete journey through Egyptian civilization.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Your guide meets you after breakfast at the hotel. The day covers Luxor's West Bank in the morning and the East Bank temples in the afternoon. A return flight to Cairo departs in the evening.

Valley of the Kings
Begin with the Valley of the Kings, the resting place of legendary pharaohs such as Ramses and Tutankhamun. Their elaborately painted tombs whisper secrets of power, faith, and eternity.

Temple of Hatshepsut
Next, visit the breathtaking Hatshepsut Temple, a masterpiece carved into towering cliffs. This sanctuary honors Egypt’s most successful female ruler and her extraordinary legacy.

Colossi of Memnon
Pause at the Colossi of Memnon, monumental guardians rising proudly from the Theban plain.

Karnak Temple
Your guide will lead you into the Hypostyle Hall, 134 columns arranged in 16 rows, the tallest reaching 21 metres, each carved with reliefs that record decades of royal campaigns and religious ceremony. The scale is disorienting in the way that only a few places on earth are: you register it intellectually before your eyes catch up.

Luxor Temple
As daylight softens, explore the Temple of Luxor, beautifully illuminated at dusk, a moment that feels like stepping into an ancient dream. Visitors seeking additional time inside Karnak and Luxor Temple may also be interested in our Luxor temples Egyptology deep-dive, a specialist itinerary designed around extended temple exploration and expert Egyptological interpretation.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Your driver collects you from the Cairo hotel after breakfast for the overland transfer to Alexandria, approximately two and a half hours along the Mediterranean highway. The full day is spent in Alexandria; you return to Cairo by road in the evening. This overland journey gives you a glimpse of Egypt beyond the major cities, a route similar to those featured in our Egypt road trip tours for travelers who love exploring Egypt by land.

Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa
You'll descend three levels into the largest known Roman-era funerary complex in Egypt, carved directly into the bedrock in the 2nd century AD and used continuously for three centuries. The detail worth pausing at is the decorative programme: Egyptian gods rendered in Roman sculptural style, Greek mythological figures identified by hieroglyphic labels, three visual languages occupying the same wall without contradiction.

Pompey's Pillar
The column itself stands 27 metres high, cut from a single piece of red Aswan granite, the largest monolithic column erected in antiquity outside Rome. Your guide will explain what it actually commemorates: not Pompey, but the Emperor Diocletian, and a grain distribution that ended a famine in 297 AD.

Fortress of Qaitbay
You'll walk into a 15th-century Mamluk citadel built on the exact footprint of the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, destroyed by earthquakes over several centuries. Some of the original lighthouse's granite blocks were incorporated directly into the fortress walls; your guide will point out which ones.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina
The reading rooms hold over 8 million books; the main hall descends 11 storeys below ground level under a tilted disc roof designed to catch the Mediterranean light. What you'll notice first, though, is the exterior wall 160 metres of granite carved with scripts from every writing system known to have existed, arranged chronologically from the earliest to the present. Travelers interested in a more detailed exploration of the city's classical past may also consider our Alexandria Greco-Roman heritage day tour, which focuses exclusively on Alexandria's Roman, Greek, and medieval heritage sites.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch

Check out from the Cairo hotel. Private vehicle transfer to Cairo International Airport for your onward flight. Alternatively, travelers looking to see more of Upper Egypt can continue their adventure with an Aswan overland extension rather than departing from Cairo.
